Politics in Heaven

The devotional that follows was written by Pastor Bucky Kennedy, and was published in the "One Year Devotional Prayer Book."  With the recent divisive presidential campaign fresh on my mind, I found these words to be apropos.

"Today in heaven there is no election to see who will rule.  Today in heaven, there are no lawyers or politicians debating interpretation of Scripture.  In fact, there is no debate in heaven because God is on His throne and He is doing as He pleases.

Could it be that we live in such turmoil because we are often trying to serve the wrong king in the wrong kingdom?  Philippians 3:20 says, "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." As believers our citizenship is in heaven, which means we should be living under the same authority that the inhabitants of heaven are living under right now.

Jesus wanted His disciples to start living under the authority of heaven in this world. Wouldn't it be great if we lived our life in such a way that heaven would not be a big change? This is why Jesus instructs us to pray this way: to surrender to the will of God on earth, just as we will do when we are in heaven. He is instructing us to live in this world with the heart and habits of our eternal home."

You go nowhere by accident. Wherever you go, God is sending you, wherever you are, God has put you there; He has a purpose in your being there. Christ who dwells within you has something He wants to do through you wherever you are. Believe this and go in His grace and love and power.

A New Year's Blessing

‎"May God remember you like Noah, favor you like Moses, fight for you like the Israelites, allow you to prosper like Isaac, promote you like Joseph, intervene for you like Esther, protect you like Daniel, use you like Paul, heal you like Naaman, answer you like Elijah, annoint you like David, accept you like Enoch, keep you safe like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

This is my prayer for you and your family in 2012."
